Searching for our little corner of the world

Honey, can we afford this one?

We spent eleven days on the road  looking at various areas, homes, and land. A lot of wonderful people  helped  us in our search.Even Becky, Scott, and Julia came down to meet us in Asheville for a few days so we did some touristy things like visiting the Biltmore Estate and walking the streets of downtown Asheville. Unfortunately the snow and cold, which is not normal for that area, hindered us a bit as it was a little blustery at times. Doesn't the Biltmore remind you of Loire Valley castles?

We spent more than a week in that area and found a wonderful development starting up at Lake Lure, which I'm sure most of you are familiar with because it was where the movie Dirty Dancing was filmed. The memorial service for Patrick Swayze was on the property of the development we are interested in.
There are some craftsman style homes built there already and we were able to spend 3 nights in one just to get a feel for the place.  Lake Lure is a combination of old lake resort homes and new development. It sounds a little strange. but it works, and there are a lot of outdoor activities which are easily accessible to retirees.

We also enjoyed Lookout Mountain.  There is a   development on top of the mountain which is most inviting for us retirees as well.   Chattanooga would be our major city although Lookout Mountain is a small town in itself.  We didn't have our camera with us at that point, but I downloaded a summer picture of the incline railway which is one way to get up the mountain.

In both cases we would be in resort areas with plenty of things for visitors to do, but in both cases we would also have to build.  That presents an interesting furniture issue, doesn't it?   I feel more at home in North Carolina; Gary seems to prefer Lookout Mountain, so we are continuing to  follow both paths, talking with the developers and contractors until we  make a decision.

Life is good, but we miss friends and family.

The storm that finally caught up with us

These are a few pictures of the snow in Ohio. I'm glad we made it here before the storm caught up with us in some remote area.

The first picture is of Becky and Scott shoveling their driveway. Notice that Gary and I are nice and warm inside the house.

The dogs refuse to go out in the snow by themselves, no matter how much they really need to. There is a little patch of ground under the deck but we hadn't shoveled a path there from the basement door, so the job of carrying them to their pee place fell on Gary this morning.

We made it to Ohio

We made it to Becky and Scott's in Ohio last night. I know it was a very quick drive, but after sightseeing in New Mexico, I couldn't hold Gary back from seeing Julia. We braved the snow in Amarillo but other than that the weather was good. We are now awaiting a phone call saying that our furniture is 24 hours from Asheville and we will leave to meet the truck at the storage unit there. Then we'll do our house hunting seriously. I look forward to seeing all you Californians again soon when I fly back to work on my BTSA stuff.
